LX200 Classic Communications

To build a new hand controller for the LX200 Classic, we needed to completely understand the communications protocol, byte-by-byte, so some text fixtures were created and data captured. Then the CPU side of the conversations was mocked so that each command could be isolated, and its parameters could be varied to see what their purpose was. This research is being documented in a much larger PDF document, linked below. It may allow someone to build their own handset, emulate the handset controls in PC software, or just satisfy some curiosity. Warning: tampering with the telescope and handset hardware con potentially destroy your telescope, don't attempt unless you are confident you can safely work with it and are willing to accept the risk of damage to the telescope.
